Reckless Driver in Mansfield story makes the East Midlands news

I cannot believe it. Of all the incidents in the past week, the one that makes national news is the one from the Chad regarding a Range Rover pulling a sledge behind it. Something that a hell of alot of people across the Country have been doing.

I understand that its dangerous but at the same time why would such a story make front page news AND the East Midlands today website and main news?

I was disgusted that such a story could make such headlines and that the police seem to be bending over backwards to find the people involved.

A total waste of police time…

The story/saga continues……

Reckless Driver takes kids on dangerous sledge ride

Something that made the local news lately was a story about a group of kids being towed around on a sledge by a Range Rover. The CHAD newspaper decided that this was front page material and thanks to a local man named John Gardiner took it upon himself to take a picture of these kids and the Range Rover.

Straight away I had to make a comment on the Chad website, I used to read the paper every week and over the past few years the stories have gone from bad to worse. My point was this:

Why is there such a story on the front page? Surely there are more important things that could have made the front page. Warning the people of Mansfield about the bad ice, stories about the old lady being attacked and robbed or maybe even the story about the man who rescued his autistic son? But NO!!!! They put this crap on the front page instead!!

This was taken from the Chad website:

THIS picture shows the moment when fun in the snow turned into a potentially lethal game for a group of Mansfield children.

John Gardiner snapped this image of an adult taking three youngsters for a dangerous road ride on a tarpaulin pulled by a 4×4.

Police are now trying to track down the mystery driver, branding the behaviour as ‘reckless’.

Mr Gardiner managed to grab the photo last Tuesday evening and said the shot shows just one of a series of similar stunts on Kings Walk following the heavy snow”

There are a few comments on the Chad site and many more to come no doubt, we seem to have started a little discussion……

Scuba Diving lasted long!!!!

Just under a year ago I started Scuba Diving with the Mansfield BSAC club. It was something I had not tried before and with my partner at the time taking an interest in it I thought I would give her some support and give it a try myself. We spent over six months attending pool sessions and training towards an ocean diver qualification. Due to one thing or another we have yet to pass this course and have still not been out into open water and now due to us breaking up I cannot see me continuing with the newly found hobby.

I guess it was never meant to be, it was fun whilst it lasted but in all honesty I don’t think diving is for me. Typically, whilst being involved in the Scuba industry for such a short time I did come across a new business opportunity which has taken off rather well. With us being involved in the action camera market it wasn’t look before I got introduced to a scuba diving mask with an integrated digital camera, rather ironic really as one of the first things I thought when I started was how cool it would be if you could get one. Low and behold, months later, one hits the American market :)

There are now a range of masks from Liquid Image which are practically digital camera masks. There is the Liquid Image 310 which can be used down to 10 metres and the Liquid Image 320HD which operates down to a depth of 35 metres. We have all been totally blown away by the quality of these masks not to mention the amazing images you can take with them. Oh, did I mention that they also do video too, truly amazing.

Unfortunately I will not be able to put mine into as much use as I initially intended but no doubt shall make a trip back into the scuba world soon!!

Time for a new office chair

Following a spinal operation I have been having several issues with sitting down for long periods of time and with me working behind a screen and desk for most of my time its becoming more and more difficult to stop my back from stiffening up. I seem to have a substantial amount of scar tissue which restricts the movement in my lower spine.

Anyway, the point I am getting to is my posture at work. I sit behind a desk for a good eight hours a day and despite being told by the osteopath and physio to get up and walk about every hour when you are busy its difficult. I have been looking into the office chairs that we have in the office and wondered if it would be worth buying something like a Gull Wing Chair which has a bit more back support than your standard office chair.  When I first came out of hospital I was looking at ergonomic office chairs but the price of them put me off, however, two years later they have come down in price so I may just have a look at those too.

Helping Charities

Throughout my business life I have worked with a couple of charities and have offered my help as and when needed. My first encounter was back as a kid, I must have been ten years old if that. I was in Mansfield walking to see my Grandma and outside Woolworths (now closed of course) was a group of blokes on cycling machines doing a fund-raiser for a kids charity. I think it was called Whizzkids?

Anyway, I spoke to a lady there who allowed me to get on one of the bikes and start pedalling, gave me a bucket and started collecting coins. Me being the youngest one there I managed to collect loads. In the meantime my Grandma was wondering where I was. After a few hours I got tired and made my way to my Grandma’s and apologised for being so late. She understood once I told her that I had been helping raise money for children.

From that day I got the satisfied feeling that I had took a few hours out of my day to help a cause and hopefully make a difference to someone’s life (or lives) and throughout my life that one thing must have changed my thought process or made me naturally considerate towards those who help others or those who are less fortunate than myself.

I am now approaching 26 years old, still think the same and have helped out a few charities over the past ten years. One of those is the Action for Children or as it was formerly known, NCH. I somehow got introduced to the local area manager who I soon built up a good relationship with and offered my internet marketing services setting them up with a facebook page.

More recently there has been a campaign in our local area for the soldiers who have lost their lives. This campaign has done very well and has had support from over one hundred Mansfield businesses. There is also a Military Parade to support the Mansfield’s Heroes Campaign which will see the whole of Mansfield backing the cause. We have recently provided the organisation with a free website as well as support with their facebook campaign.
