Earthquake in Mansfield, Chesterfield & Nottingham

February 27th, 2008 by dave

Earthquake in Mansfield ? ? ?  It appears so….

At about 01:05am on Wednesday 27th February, Mansfield residents were awoken by a loud rumble and shaking houses, me and the girlfriend had not gone to bed and were laid watching TV when it happened.

It was the first time I personally witnessed anything like this, it scared the life out of the both of us, the house shook for about six or seven seconds.

Many of the residence on the street came out and were stood on their doorsteps.

Shortly afterwards the wind picked up, we are all a bit shook up and hoping that it does not happen again.

Is the start of something or just a one off?

If you have found this site through searching please leave a comment and mention your street if you felt
the rumble, we can then find out how far it reached.

11am UPDATE - According to the news, it was the worst earthquake to hit Mansfield for 250 years, and read 5.2 on the richter scale. The earthquake did not only hit Mansfield but went through most of the Country.

Reports soon flooded in from Chesterfield, Sheffield, Nottingham, Derby, Leicester as far down as Kent.
